Sunny day in Belém

There isn't a better choice for a sunny day as going to Belém and experiencing Lisbon's past and the future while walking along the river Tejo and eating the delicious "Pastéis de Belém" (cream puffs made in Lisbon)!

To go there you should catch Tram 15 or Bus 714 both departing from Praça da Figueira and stopping in Belém.

We recommend starting by visiting Mosteiro dos Jerónimos which is a World Heritage Site and the best architecture example of the Portuguese Manueline Style (late Gothic). If you are a student, you can even visit the cloister for free!

When you get hungry just find the blue-tile building where you can buy "Pastéis de Belém", it's the original factory with its own recipe and they are baking them the whole day. And don't be shy: one is clearly not enough!

If you don´t like cakes you should pay them a visit anyway, because the shop, with its old "azulejos", is worth a visit.

Don´t miss CCB - Centro Cultural de Belém, not only for the interesting modern building but also because it houses many exhibitions (Museu Colecção Berardo), most of them gratis, and an Art Factory, and presents all kinds of concerts! Until 18th May you can see the work of the Portuguese Joana Vasconcelos.

Although the view from CCB is wonderful, I would recommend to have an ice-cream and appreciate the river from the terrace of the new Café-Restaurante Nosolo, just next to the Padrão dos Descobrimentos.

To finish this nice trip, you can walk along the river and visit Torre de Belém (Belém Tower) also a World Heritage Site, that was not only used for defense but also as a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon.
